Our club was formed in 1960. After completing 10 weeks of dance lessons, a small group of people decided to form a club. A contest was held to name the club, and the name Coeurly Q was decided upon. Our name is derived from the name of our city and the old square dance maneuver called the Curly Q.
Our club celebrated 55 years in 2015! Our remaining charter members, Elvina Doyle and Doris Peterson, are valuable advisers and supporters of this club.
The club's first home was Mica Grange, and our members have warm memories of this special place. Other dances were held at Blue Creek Grange, Cougar Gulch, I.O.O.F. Hall, Masonic Hall, and the old Ivalee Hall. Now we call the Harding Family Center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, our home.
Our club outfits are in shades of turquoise blue to represent the color of the lake. At one time, we wore turquoise/white checked dresses for the gals, and turquoise vests with white shirts for the guys.
Our record library started out being pretty small. We used a portable record player because the speakers could be moved. Nowadays, most of the callers use computers! Other dances being performed at our gatherings were waltzes, two-steps, varsouviannas, schottishes, and polkas. (This might be why to this day folks of Mica Grange still enjoy a monthly dance with this variety of dances.)
We are still a very active "family" club, and participate in many community activities. We also have club sponsored activities such as a picnics, mystery trips, and other social activities.
Come and join us for active fun and friendship!
